CogState's apparently simple test to gauge brain function is winning orders and international interest.
To succeed in biotechnology, small enterprises need one quality above all others: patience. It usually takes at least seven years to develop and sell a drug, and medical devices, such as respiratory equipment, can take a good five years to get to market. Even developing a psychological test can take years. The time involved in product development is a big issue facing CogState, the most recent small health-care and biotechnology company to float on the stockmarket. CogState has been developing its test of cognitive function since the late 1990s.
