Woodside needs stars to align to get Santos
Where does Santos fit in to Woodside’s cash in/cash out story? Everyone wants to know.
Woodside Energy Meg O’Neill didn’t turn up to the company’s full-year results to give a blow-by-blow account of why the $80 billion merger talks with Santos fell over. But she couldn’t hide from it either.
When asked about Santos, O’Neill was direct, short and sharp. Think one or two sentence answers: Woodside is looking to grow its LNG portfolio and putting the two companies together would have created a significant LNG position, but talks got to the point where a deal was no longer in either party’s best interest.
