Why it’s more profitable to back women-led start-ups
With men holding 90 per cent of the senior management positions in the private capital industry in Australia, it is little wonder women entrepreneurs are keen for the blokes to broaden their horizons.
Jackie Vullinghs, a principal of AirTree Ventures– one of the first backers of Canva, the spectacular home-grown $55 billion software company – says there is a big difference between male and female entrepreneurs.
“One of the things that we do notice is that women often tend to pitch the most realistic version of their plan, whereas men will often pitch the most optimistic version of their plan,” she told a panel discussion at the Morgan Stanley Australia summit this week.
