The one debate this Macquarie infrastructure guru finds ‘nuts’
Ani Satchcroft says higher rates are making complex deals harder, and debates about the widening definition of infrastructure miss the point.
It was Adam Copp, chief executive of Infrastructure Australia, who nailed the challenge at the heart of Australia’s infrastructure boom. Big projects and big promises are great, but paying for them and building them is another matter entirely, particularly when interest rates have surged.
“It was really nice when interest rates were basically 0 per cent and when we thought we had enough workers, but we just don’t have the financing or the funding and the workers to actually deliver on everything that is in there,” Copp told The Australian Financial Review Infrastructure Summit in Sydney on Monday.
