“And I thought you were going to ask me about the cricket,” Pendal chief executive Nick Good says when this column gets to the elephant in the room: Regal Funds Management’s attempt to scuttle Pendal’s merger with Perpetual by launching its own bid for the latter.

For the record, Good’s British roots mean he’s hoping England can win the T20 World Cup, although he’s sure New Zealand are the team to beat.
