Jacques dodges Rio's toughest question

Chief executive Jean-Sebastien Jacques batted away questions about the appalling Juukan Gorge incident as he released one of the strongest half-year results in the company's history.

The financial results from Rio Tinto's iron ore division could be mistaken for those from a Silicon Valley software company, with a profit margin of 72 per cent and return on capital employed of 64 per cent.

While the release of one of the strongest half-year profit results in the history of the company benefited from advanced mining technology, shareholders can thank China's insatiable demand for iron ore.
