It’s a big week for Macquarie Group – and not just because the financial services giant is poised to seal the deal of the year, with the $20 billion-plus sale of data centre group AirTrunk set to be announced any minute.

Later this week, Macquarie chief executive Shemara Wikramanayake will add a new title to her resume – that of government-appointed “business champion” – when she leads a delegation of Australian businesses to the Philippines.
