Why Qantas isn’t a big winner from Rex turmoil
There’s little sense of celebration inside Qantas headquarters, as the transport industry and broader financial markets waited for news on Rex’s future.
At first glance, it might seem obvious that the biggest winner from the financial turmoil that has engulfed ASX-listed airline Regional Express is the aviation sector’s comeback kid, Qantas.
Less competition, less capacity, less pressure on pricing – what isn’t there to like? Qantas shares rose 1.6 per cent on Tuesday, and have climbed almost 30 per cent since their nadir last October.
