New Wesfarmers chief executive Rob Scott has given a strong hint that his reign will be marked by acquisitions, as the conglomerate looks to make use of its strong balance sheet.

He also made it clear he wouldn't be hitting the panic button despite the challenges the group faces with the performance of Coles and Bunnings UK and Ireland (BUKI).
