Grant King leaves BHP board after investor revolt

Grant King's decision to leave the BHP board followed more than 100 meetings between chairman-elect Ken MacKenzie and investors, in which the new chairman was left in no doubt about shareholder anger with the appointment of the former Origin boss and Business Council of Australia president.

Mr King announced on Wednesday he would not seek formal election to the board at BHP's annual general meetings to be held this year "owing to concerns expressed by some investors".
