Escondida strike costs BHP Billiton $688m

For all of the wailing and gnashing of teeth in the Australian business community about industrial relations, BHP's latest production numbers are a reminder that we don't have it too bad.
The six-week strike at BHP's Escondida copper mine in Chile – the biggest copper mine in the world – will result in a $US546 million ($688.8 million) hit to pre-tax earnings due to "idle capacity" and other costs.
