Tennis Australia has joined the television rights race, calling for broadcasters already busy working on bids for cricket rights to lob an offer for the high-rating Australian Open and other tournaments.
The move means tennis and cricket are locked in direct competition for potentially between $1 billion and $1.5 billion worth of income from broadcasters over the next six years.
