The High Court grilled Senator Malcom Roberts' barrister on the final day of the 'citizenship seven' hearings, ahead of what could be a rapid decision.

Adjourning on Thursday afternoon, High Court Chief Justice Susan Kiefel warned it was "not always possible" to decide immediately, but close observers anticipate a relatively quick ruling on the fate of Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce and the six senators.
