Shell's head in Australia has accused some commercial customers of unjustifiably "agitating" for government intervention into the east coast market, even though gas sales contracts are being struck, the market is working and regulators have determined there is no shortfall in domestic supplies.
Zoe Yujnovich, the energy giant's country chairman, said east coast gas prices have fallen closer to export-equivalent prices, and Shell has "done everything we can" for the domestic market.
