Origin Energy chairman Gordon Cairns has defended the company's consultation process with traditional owners in the Northern Territory ahead of drilling next year, and has pledged to improve disclosure on membership of industry associations, two issues that were the subject of resolutions at the annual shareholder meeting that secured relatively strong proxy support.

Some 46.3 per cent of proxy votes lodged ahead of the meeting supported a resolution concerned about whether Origin's climate goals match up with the advocacy positions taken by industry groups to which it belongs.
