The mortgage broking 'revolution' has failed

The mortgage broking revolution, which disrupted the major banks in the 1990s, has failed and many brokers now act in the best interest of the banks that own them and not consumers, a scathing report has found.
The Productivity Commission singles out mortgage brokers as an area of significant concern, in its draft report on competition in financial services, and raises the prospect of a ban on trailing commissions and a shift to fee-for-service.
