The federal government has agreed to adopt 75 of the 76 recommendations made by the Hayne royal commission but has baulked at fully implementing a suggested crackdown on mortgage brokers, claiming it would harm competition.

Labor, however, said if elected it will implement all the recommendations in full, including the removal of upfront fees paid by banks and other lenders to the mortgage brokers, setting up a political fight going in to the next election.
