Are Amazon, Alphabet too big to regulate?

The short-termism created by the US model of quarterly reporting may be a worry, but one benefit is that it reminds of us the sheer size of world's biggest companies.
No more is that true than in the tech sector, where the numbers are eye-watering. On Thursday, Amazon reported a revenue jump of 39 per cent to $US52.9 billion ($72 billion) for the three months ended June 30, with earnings of $US1.64 billion – almost double analyst expectations.
