While Ian Narev still has some time left in the hot seat at Commonwealth Bank of Australia, there will be a different chief executive addressing shareholders at the bank's annual general meeting this time next year.

Chairman Catherine Livingstone has confirmed a global search for his successor is "well advanced" and the bank is considering internal and external candidates from Australia and offshore.
