Pies pull ofF miracle win: Rd 19 report card

AFL

There were no perfect scores but no fails either, in this foxfooty.com.au’s Round 19 Report Card.

It took a big final quarter, but the Lions have extended their winning run to eight with victory over the Gold Coast Suns. If not for some Joe Daniher and Charlie Cameron magic, the Lions could have suffered a sixth loss in 2022.

Brisbane Lions

The Blues’ top-four hopes remain alive after a 36-point win over the Giants — although they didn’t have it all their own way. The Giants put the pressure on, kicking 3.3 to 2.3 from 19 inside 50s to eight. In simple terms, Carlton ‘did what it had to’ considering the tight finals stakes.

Carlton

The Pies once again pulled off another miracle win with Jamie Elliott the hero after nailing a goal after the siren. It came despite Collingwood leading by 37 points at quarter-time before the Bombers fought back in an emphatic turnaround to eventually go up by 21 points.

COLLINGWOOD

The Dockers haven’t recorded a Friday night win away from home in more than eight years …with their draw to Richmond cementing their drought. Fremantle were lucky with a draw which ultimately came down to some shocking errors by Richmond.

Fremantle

The Dees have managed to string wins together despite not playing at their best, but now a top-two spot is well and truly under threat after losing to the Bulldogs. With a nightmare run home, they’ll need to start steadying fast.

MELBOURNE

Right out of the gate the Power put the pressure on the Cats but ultimately fell short to a side that just doesn’t know how to lose at the moment. Such good form was shown by Port, and the side likely beats the vast majority of opposition if it continues to play like that.

PORT ADELAIDE

The Saints had not beaten West Coast in Perth in more than a decade... until now. The visitors finished ahead in every stat that mattered and found ways to answer any Eagles’ momentum away from home.
