Senior Hells Angels bikie charged over guns found at Ponde property during search in September

Firearms found hidden on a notorious Hells Angels property belong to a high-ranking member of the bikie club, police allege, following the man’s arrest on Wednesday.

A senior Hells Angels member has been charged with firearms offences two months after a shotgun and rifle – and car used in a 2017 murder – was uncovered at the club’s rural bikie compound.

Police will allege the 58-year-old Marion man is the owner of the guns found at Ponde, in the Murray Mallee, in September.

The .410 shotgun and .22 rifle was found hidden inside a building at the property, near Mannum about 100km east of Adelaide.

Shortly after the find, Crime Gangs Task Force and Major Crime detectives unearthed a burnt-out car they say was used as a getaway vehicle in the 2017 murder of Mark Boyce.

On Wednesday, Crime Gangs Task Force officers arrested the high-ranking bikie at a Marion address.

He is charged with two counts of possessing a firearm without a licence, two counts of having insecure ammunition and one of possessing a sound moderator.

He was bailed to appear at Adelaide Magistrates Court next year.

On September 17 and 18, police swarmed the notorious Hells Angels hangout in the hope of finding crucial evidence linked to the murder of Mr Boyce and fatal shooting of three Rebels members in 1999.

On the second day, detectives pulled the fire-damaged Toyota Echo, secreted about 5m underground, to the surface.

At the time, Detective Superintendent Des Bray, officer in charge of Major Crime, said the car was connected the 2017 bashing murder of Mr Boyce at Elizabeth South.

Earlier this year, Hells Angels associate Joshua Roy Grant, 27, was found guilty by a jury of Mr Boyce’s murder. However, two other suspects are yet to be charged.

On the first day of the search, police surprised a known Hell’s Angel member who fled the property when police arrived unannounced. He was chased down, interviewed and released without charge.

A 1988 Toyota Hilux Ute stolen from Magill in 2000, a yellow 1984 Mitsubishi tip truck that was taken from outside the Two Wells Tavern in 2001 and a small bobcat was also found.

The large-scale search ignited after police received new information on the 1999 shooting murders of Rebels members Graham Nixon, 33, Sinibaldo Palombi, 35, and Hubert Western, 32.

The trio were gunned down outside their clubrooms in Wright St in the city. The incident is considered Adelaide’s bloodiest bikie battle.
