Wynn Vale man Mark Anthony Gray faces court in Adelaide over allegations he helped run app designed to share child exploitation material

An Adelaide man has been remanded in custody after appearing on court facing multiple child exploitation allegations.

An Adelaide man has been remanded in custody over allegations he helped run a social media app designed to share child exploitation material.

Mark Anthony Gray, 56, of Wynn Vale, faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

He has yet to plead to multiple child sex counts, including communicating with a child to procure sex.

Gray was arrested on Tuesday and charged with two counts of making a child amenable to sexual activity and one count of offences relating to websites.

On Wednesday, counsel for Gray said their client would not be applying for release on bail.

Matthew Milburn, for SA Police, asked the matter be adjourned for 14 weeks to allow JACET to finalise its case.

Gray was remanded in custody.

It is alleged he was acting as an administrator of a social networking application for the purpose of dealing with child exploitation material.

Gray was arrested by the SA Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team, or JACET, which is a partnership between SA Police and the Australian Federal Police.

The team’s remit is to seek out, arrest and prosecute Australians who engage in child sex abuse both here and overseas.

One of the team’s most famous arrests was the “child collector” Ruecha Tokputza, who abused 13 children in two countries and amassed almost 900,000 images of exploitation.

In May last year, Tokputza received a record 40-year prison term for his crimes.
