Victorian woman charged with breaching quarantine twice, NSW couple charged with COVID breach

Two more people have been charged with COVID breaches, a NSW couple who allegedly sneaked into SA to sell a dog – and will now spend the weekend in jail.

Border restrictions: State-by-state lockdowns explained

Two more people have been charged with breaching COVID restrictions – a NSW man and woman, who police say sneaked into SA to sell a dog.

Police said the couple were refused entry into SA at the Pinaroo border checkpoint on Friday when they tried to cross over in a black Toyota with NSW plates.

They were trying to sell a dog, police say, and were told to return to NSW.

However, police allegedly stopped the same vehicle about 10am on Saturday in Kilburn, where the two occupants claimed they’d entered SA earlier in the week.

Checks revealed they’d been refused entry and they were both arrested and charged with breaching COVID directions.

The man, 25, and the woman, 20, were both refused police bail and will face Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

It came as a Victorian woman let into South Australia on compassionate grounds was found staying more than 100km away from her provided address – before then leaving that home and breaching quarantine restrictions, it is alleged.

On Tuesday, the woman, 26, passed through a checkpoint at Hynam and provided officers with an address at Millicent, where she would be required to quarantine.

She had been granted permission to enter SA on compassionate grounds.

However, when officers checked the Millicent address on Thursday, she was not there.

Police instead found her staying at a Kingston SE home and issued her a fine for not complying with quarantine directions.

The 26-year-old was refused bail to appear in court on Monday.

Then, the next day, police received word the 26-year-old had left that Kingston SE address, thus breaching quarantine directions yet again.

She was arrested and charged with failing to comply with COVID-19 directions.

The Victorian was refused bail to appear in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on Monday.

The incident came to light just a day after a 65-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly hiding in a truck travelling from Victoria to SA.

Police arrested the alleged truck driver – a 46-year-old Mount Gambier man.

Hard border restrictions remain in place, with only essential travellers allowed into SA from Victoria. Compassionate exemptions are still being granted.
