Two young men suspected to have overdosed were found unconscious at Millicent, prompting a police warning

Police found two teenagers collapsed at a South East pub on Saturday night. They soon also found a supply of the drug “fantasy” and have warned about its effects.

Two young men suspected of overdosing were found unconscious at a Millicent hotel on Saturday night, prompting a police warning for people to think before consuming illicit drugs.

An 18-year-old male suddenly collapsed in the bar area of the Sportsmans Hotel on George St around 10pm, and another 18-year-old was found unconscious by police and paramedics in the rear car park of the hotel.

Both men, from the South East, were taken to Millicent Hospital. One was transferred to Mount Gambier Hospital in a serious condition.

Police searched a Nissan utility parked in the Sportsman Hotel’s car park, and uncovered a quantity of what they believed to be fantasy. The drug is a liquid form depressant, also known as GBH, which slows the activity of the central nervous system. The fantasy was seized for analysis and investigations will be ongoing.

Officer in charge of the Limestone Coast, Superintendent Phil Hoff, said community members should handle drugs with caution.

“Given the life-threatening experiences on this occasion, it is timely to encourage all members of the community to make wise choices before consuming anything,” Superintendent Hoff said.

“GHB is a dangerous and illegal drug and police will take action against anyone who possesses, sells or supplies illicit drugs.”

The Joint Agency Ice Strike Team, from SA Police, reported they had seized 560kg fantasy from the start of January 2019 to June 2020.

The amount was estimated to be worth $2.2 million.

Detective Chief Inspector Darren Fielke, the officer in charge of the drug and organised crime branch, said fantasy has similar effects to amphetamine.

“Some horrendous things happen to you when you’re coming of it, including psychosis and violent tremors,” Inspector Fielke said.
