YOUNG MAN FILMED SMASHING LAUNDROMAT’S CCTV

In the footage, the male is seen walking into the Ezy Wash & Dry laundromat on Magill Rd in St Morris just before 6pm on Wednesday.

He then looks at the camera, and at his surroundings, before hitting the ceiling-mounted device with a plank of wood.

Owner Melissa Crisa told The Advertiser her business was just rebounding from the COVID-19 pandemic and was left outraged by the random attack.

Young man filmed knocking down laundromat's CCTV

“The most frustrating thing is that it has been such a frustrating time with COVID and for small businesses,” Ms Crisa said.

“All of a sudden things start to look a little bit better and then someone goes and does something stupid like that you’ve got to fork out even a little bit of money for.

“It’s detrimental, because we are still recovering.”

Ms Crisa believes nothing else was damaged inside the store and is left baffled by the attack.

She said the machines are coin-operated and would require excessive force to gain access to.

“All I can think is that they probably wanted to get rid of the camera so they could come back at another point in time,” she said.

There was no one in the laundromat at the time, but Ms Crisa’s husband Frank made the discovery when he checked the camera systems remotely on Wednesday night.

A police report is yet to be filed, but an SA Police spokeswoman said officers will investigate once that is done.

Their business has been targeted by vandals previously, including in October 2018 when an axe-wielding man was caught violently smashing a coin machine at their Angle Vale store.
