Rat bait sandwiches thrown over fences | Six Hells Angels bikies arrested on SA-Victorian border | Cannabis crop found

Clare Valley Veterinary Service has sent a warning to pet owners to check their yards after a sandwich of rat bait – which is poisonous to dogs – was thrown over a property’s fence.

Bikies in Australia- A short history

Clare Valley Veterinary Service is urging pet owners and families with young children to check their yard each day after a sandwich laced with rat bait was found in a local property’s yard.

The vet was alerted to the poisoned sandwich on Sunday, after a local, who wished to remain anonymous, found the sandwich in their yard before their two golden retrievers did.

Doctor Gill Rogers, of Clare Valley Vet Service, said the idea of someone throwing a poisoned sandwich over a fence to target an animal was disturbing.

“I can’t see how anyone who owns a pet could possibly do something like that,” Dr Rogers said.

She said their vet sees two accidental poisonings a week due to rat bait, which is toxic to cats, dogs, children and birds.

Dr Rogers is urging owners to check their yards daily for rat bait sandwiches.

“We don’t know if this is just one person, or just a lunatic throwing them over fences.”

She said animals who consumed rat bait would not show symptoms of poisoning for a few days.

“So if you suspect your pet has eaten any, even if they seem fine, please don’t hesitate to phone and bring them in.”

Hells Angels bikies arrested

Six Hells Angels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang members have been arrested and charged under SA’s tough declared criminal organisations laws.

Police allege the men met at Bordertown on February 21, en route to Victoria on a national bikie run.

All men were charged with one count of being present with two or more criminal organisation participants.

Legislation makes it an offence for participants of outlaw motorcycle gangs from declared criminal organisations to be present in public groups of three or more.

The Hells Angels are one of 10 declared criminal organisations under the legislation.

The men charged were a 52-year-old from Old Reynella, a 31-year-old from Andrews Farm, a 30-year-old from Gulfview Heights, a 65-year-old from Morphettville, a 26-year-old from Parafield Gardens, a 58-year-old from Marion.

The Old Reynella man was bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates court in April, while the remaining five were bailed to appear in the Bordertown Magistrates Court in April.

Detective Chief Inspector Michael Fisher, from the Crime Gangs Task Force, said the legislation has had a significant impact on bikie gang members’ abilities to meet, interact and plan activities.

“In doing so it has reduced the incidents of public violence and enhanced community safety. SAPOL will continue to investigate outlaw motorcycle gang associations and where sufficient evidence exists will take positive action to ensure community safety is maintained,” Chief-Insp Fisher said.
