SATURDAY, JANUARY 2

STABBING IN MOUNT GAMBIER

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after a stabbing in Mount Gambier.

Two men had an altercation at a group of units at the corner of Queens Avenue and Wehl Street North just before 5pm.

One was stabbed in the neck and stomach.

He was rushed to Mt Gambier Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The suspect was arrested and taken to hospital under police guard for a medical assessment.

P-PLATER LOSES LICENSE FOR 50KM/H OVER

An 18-year-old has lost their license after being clocked at 50km/h over the speed limit at Wellington East.

The P-plater in a silver Volkswagen Golf was caught on the police radar gun at 169km/h in a 110km/h zone about 1.15pm on Saturday on the Princes Highway.

The man from Heathfield was stopped, fined $2252 for breaching his provisional license and being 45km/h over the speed limit.

He also lost his license on the spot for six months.

ROLEX STOLEN FROM HEWETT HOME

A man confronted an intruder inside his home, before he fled with his Rolex watch.

The man woke to noises at 3am on New Year’s Day inside his house on Carpentaria Way.

Confronting the intruder in his kitchen, the man was unable to stop him before he left with a number of stolen items including a Rolex Submariner crystal perpetual motion watch.

The serial number on the watch is G736643.

A wallet, cash, pair of sunglasses and Bose Bluetooth speaker were also stolen, along with a laptop.

The victim was not physically injured and has been unable to provide a physical description of the suspect as it was too dark.

SUSPICIOUS BIN FIRE

A bin fire that damaged a gas meter is being investigated by police.

The fire, which has been deemed suspicious, started about 6pm on Friday on Gulfview Road at Christies Beach.

As it spread from the bin to gas meter, it became increasingly difficult for MFS crews to extinguish.

The meter was isolated and extinguished before it could damage nearby businesses.

Police are asking those with information to get in contact with Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

MAN ARRESTED FOR STEALING CAR AT CHRISTMAS

A man who stole a car between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day has been arrested.

The man was seen acting suspiciously by a member of the public at about 3am Saturday January 2 on Festival Drive at Adelaide.

The silver Volkswagen Golf was checked by police, showing up in their system as being stolen between December 24 and 25.

The car was still warm, and police tracked the man to Hindley Street.

A 36-year-old man from Salisbury was arrested and charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle. He has been bailed to appear in court at a later date.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 1

FREEWAY LUNATIC REFUSES BREATH TEST

A drunk man seen driving erratically on the South Eastern Freeway has lost his licence after refusing a breath test.

The 32-year-old Strathalbyn man came to the attention of police after multiple calls about a blue Jeep on the Freeway at about midday.

When police caught up with the man at Wellington Road, Mt Barker, he refused to be breath tested.

Police allege he was “grossly intoxicated”.

He was reported for driving under the influence and refusing a breath test.

He lost his licence for 12 months and his car was impounded for 28 days.

The man will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

STOLEN MOTORBIKE RIDERS CAUGHT

Two men have been nabbed riding stolen motorbikes after being pulled into an RBT on New Year’s morning.

The pair were waved into the testing station on Port Road just before 5.45am.

A 32-year-old man from Woodville South was found to have been riding a motorbike stolen from Woodville South in October last year.

He also allegedly had a knife strapped to his waistband and was disqualified from driving.

A 27-year-old Grange man, who was riding a red Kawasaki stolen from Kent Town last week, tested positive to methamphetamine.

Neither of the men had ever held a motorbike licence.

They were arrested and charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle and driving unlicensed.

The Woodville South man was charged with carrying an offensive weapon and the Grange man may face drug-related charges after his test sample has been forensically analysed.

The bikes were seized and will be returned to their owners.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER BITING POLICE OFFICER

A police officer was bitten while trying to arrest a man who, along with a group of other people, was allegedly spraying graffiti at a city school on New Year’s Eve.

Police discovered several graffiti tags and a truck at Mitcham Girls High School.

They tried to arrest a man, but he fled before being caught.

He then allegedly bit an officer on the arm while resisting arrest.

The police officer that was bitten did not require any medical treatment.

A 36-year-old Belair man was arrested and charged with three counts of mark graffiti, after it was discovered several road signs on Belair Road had also been damaged with spray paint.

He was also charged with possess graffiti implements, assault police and resisting arrest.

The man was bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court at a later date.

CAR FIRE AT ULEYBURY

A car fire burnt 60 acres of scrub in Adelaide’s north on Thursday evening.

The white SUV was well alight when police and fire crews arrived at Medlow Road at Uleybury just after 7pm.

The car was driving through a property before it collided with some rocks, sparking the fire.

Nobody was injured and the car left the scene soon after the collision.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 31

MAN ARRESTED OVER CBD HOLD-UPS

A man has been arrested for allegedly terrorising three separate CBD convenience stores in just a matter of hours.

The man, 33, of no fixed address, first entered a service station on Pulteney Street about 11.15pm on Thursday.

He allegedly threatened a staff member and stole an amount of cash.

About two hours later, he then entered a convenience store on King William Street, where police say he demanded money from the till.

The staff member refused to hand over the money and the man left empty-handed, walking north on King William Street.

Then, just after 1.30am, he hit a third convenience store – this time on Hindley Street.

Police say the man, again, left empty-handed despite demanding cash.

After reviewing CCTV footage, police set up cordons in the area and quickly arrested the 33-year-old on Leigh Street.

He was taken to the City Watch House, where he was charged with robbery. attempted robbery, assault and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday afternoon.

PAIR ON THE RUN AFTER SUBWAY HOLD-UP

In a separate incident in the early hours of Thursday morning, a man and a woman jumped over the counter of a Subway store inside Hillbank service station and stole cash from the till.

Police say the man threatened staff with a knife, before the pair ran away from the business on Main North Road just before 2am. No one was injured.

The male suspect is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, and was wearing a white Adidas T-shirt with a gold logo, dark grey shorts and grey shoes.

The female suspect is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, long dark hair, and was wearing a black jumper, black pants and blue shoes. She was also carrying a black bag.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 30

FISHERMEN SAVED BY STRANGER

Two fishermen were rescued near Port MacDonnell on Wednesday morning after their boat capsized.

The 54-year-old and 60-year-old local men fired flares before 7am.

They were rescued by members off the public about 1.5km offshore and returned to land with their boat.

Police thanked the quick-thinking helpers for assisting the pair.

ROAD SPIKES TO STOP DRINK DRIVER

Road spikes had to be deployed to stop a drink-driving speeder in the state’s mid north overnight.

After receiving reports of a blue Range Rover speeding on the Augusta Highway near Port Wakefield on Tuesday evening, police found the car travelling at 121km/h near Redhill.

The car failed to stop for police and headed toward Warnertown, where it was stopped by road spikes.

The 46-year-old woman driver from the Northern Territory then blew 0.158.

She was charged with multiple offences, including speeding, driving at a dangerous speed, and drink driving.

She was also charged with carrying an offensive weapon after a baseball bat and knife were found near the driver’s seat.

She has been bailed to appear at Port Pirie Magistrates Court at a later date.

MASSIVE FINE FOR SPEEDING

A man has been fined nearly $2000 after he was clocked at more than 45km/h over the speed limit.

The 24-year-old was driving a Kia Sorento on the Sturt Highway at Blanchetown when he was caught driving 138km/h in an 80km/h zone.

He was fined $1780, given nine demerit points and issued a six-month instant loss of licence.

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 29

FOUR ARRESTED OVER GRANGE GRAFFITI ATTACK

Four people, including a 16-year-old boy, have been arrested over an alleged graffiti attack that caused several thousand dollars of damage at Grange on Tuesday night.

Police received reports a group was acting suspiciously near the Grange Railway Station about 7.30pm.

They all ran away when the noticed police, but three of the suspects were quickly arrested. One man, 20, of Elizabeth Grove, climbed on to the roof of a nearby premises on Jetty Street.

He came down and was arrested about an hour later.

Officers searched the area and found fresh graffiti had been marked all down the side of a train carriage, causing thousands of dollars of damage, police say.

The 20-year-old was charged with mark graffiti, unlawfully on premises, carry graffiti implement, refuse details and hinder police.

Police also arrested another 20-year-old man, of Noarlunga Downs, and charged him with mark graffiti and carry graffiti implement.

Meanwhile, a 29-year-old Morphett Vale woman was charged with unlawfully on premises and a 16-year-old Grange boy was arrested for hindering police.

The adults were bailed to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court in February.

The teenager was bailed to appear in the Port Adelaide Youth Court next month.

CYCLIST DIES AFTER FALL

A man has died after falling from his bike at Morphettville.

The 75-year-old Plympton Park man was riding along a bike path near Rosedale Avenue when he fell.

Major Crash officers attended the scene and investigations are continuing.

CAR SET ALIGHT AT MILE END

A car was completely destroyed by a fire at Mile End early Tuesday morning.

The blaze engulfed the car, catching the attention of police and fire crews at 4am on William Street.

The white Honda coupe was well alight when crews arrived. The blaze is being treated as suspicious.

TRIO ROB GLENELG SOUTH BOTTLE SHOP

A teenager has been arrested and two suspects are on the run after they robbed a Glenelg South bottle shop on Monday.

The trio entered the shop on Brighton at about 9.10pm, where they stole four bottles of alcohol.

They ran when confronted by staff, but the teenage suspect was found by police close by.

The 15-year-old from Edwardstown was charged with theft, and was bailed to appear in court at a later date.

Police are searching for identities of the other two suspects and ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 28

MT GAMBIER FIRE DESTROYS HOUSE

A house in Mt Gambier has been completely destroyed by a fire.

The Powell Street home was well alight when MFS and CFS crews arrived after receiving multiple triple-0 calls before 5pm.

It took four trucks and 16 firefighters about 40 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

About $200,000 worth of damage was caused to the unoccupied house.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

FIRESTARTER FINED

A man has been fined after starting a grass fire at Munno Para Downs.

A scrub fire ignited at about 11am on Monday at Nosworthy Road, catching the attention of fire crews.

Destroying an area of grass and a glass house, the fire was investigated.

A 73-year-old Munno Para Downs man was using an angle grinder, failing to leave four metres of cleared space around him.

The man also did not have a water source or fire extinguisher on hand.

He was fined $375 on the spot for failing to comply with restrictions on the use of certain appliances during fire danger season.

BOATIE BLOWS FIVE TIMES OVER

A boat driver has been reported after blowing five times over the limit at Mannum.

The man driving a small boat was breath-tested, returning a reading of 0.257.

The 37-year-old man from Craigmore was reported for operating a vessel with a prescribed concentration of alcohol.

He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

TWO ARRESTED AFTER STEALING CAR

Police dogs sniffed out two car thieves at Woodville North early on Monday morning.

Two men were spotted driving a stolen green Mazda on Regency Road at Kilkenny about 3.50am. Police attempted to stop the pair, but they refused.

The car was pursued for a short time, before being terminated as it was unsafe.

The car, last seen on Port Road near Croydon, was reported to police as being crashed into a fence at 4am on York Place at Woodville North.

Running from the scene, the men were tracked by police dogs Havoc and Judge on Edgecombe Street at Woodville North.

A 31-year-old man and 16-year-old girl were arrested.

The man from Nailsworth was charged with driving dangerously to escape police pursuit, illegal use of a motor vehicle and driving without a licence.

The girl from Elizabeth Downs was charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle.

Both were refused police bail and are expected to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

CRASH AT FULLARTON

Three people were injured in a crash at Fullarton.

A silver SUV collided with another car on Glen Osmond Road near The Arkaba Hotel at about 12.50pm on Monday.

Three people were treated with minor injuries and the silver SUV sustained heavy damage to its front end.

Traffic was slowed down, creating congestion heading towards the city. Debris and fluid from the crash had to be cleared by cleaning crews.

STOLEN CARS FOUND AT COWANDILLA

Two men have been arrested after they were caught in a stolen 4WD at Cowandilla.

The pair were spotted on Thomas Street where they were tampering with a Mitsubishi 4WD with stolen plates about midnight on Monday.

Upon being spotted by police, the pair fled in separate directions. One man ran off jumping fences, the other was arrested immediately.

The man who jumped the fences was found hiding in a shed of a nearby house.

Police discovered the pair had recently parked a Toyota 4WD with stolen plates in the driveway of a house on Thomas Street.

A 36-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with illegal interference, unassigned plates, driver disqualified and hinder police.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The other man, a 21-year-old man from Brooklyn Park, was charged with illegal interference and has been bailed to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on April 1.
