A woman who, a murder trial heard, urged her then-partner to stab a man outside a northern suburbs shopping centre has faced court herself, charged with animal cruelty offences.

Renee Davies, 29, of Kilburn, faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

She has yet to plead to four counts of ill-treating an animal, an offence that carries a maximum $50,000 fine or four-year prison term.

Court documents filed by the RSPCA allege the offences occurred at Kilburn on April 15 this year – the court has yet to hear any details about the alleged offending.

On Wednesday, Davies told the court she had yet to obtain a lawyer and asked the matter be adjourned.

She will face court again in November.

In 2018, Davies’ conduct was part of the Supreme Court murder trial of her former partner, Shaun Falkiner.

Falkiner was found guilty, by a jury, of murdering Alexander Watts at the Elizabeth Shopping Centre in April 2017.

That trial heard Falkiner had become embroiled in an argument with a woman, who said her ex-partner would come attack him in retaliation.

That woman’s ex, who was known as “Kiwi”, was described in evidence as being “a man-mountain”, and this prompted Falkiner to steal a 20cm knife to arm himself.

Jurors were told Mr Watts was also a friend of the woman, and that he began following Falkiner asking “why would you attack a woman?”.

Davies was also present, the court heard, and told Falkiner “you are weak”, “you never stick up for me” and urged him to “just do it” before he stabbed Mr Watts in the stomach.

Falkiner insisted he had no intention to kill Mr Watts, describing the fatal blow as a “half-hearted warning shot”, but was convicted nonetheless.

He is currently serving a life sentence with a 20-year non-parole period.
