An unlicensed Rebels bikie who sped at more than 170km/h on his white Harley Davidson before a high-speed police chase has been jailed for 14 months.
Bradley Daniele, 26, pleaded guilty in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today to aggravated dangerous driving and using a device to obscure a number plate.
The court heard Daniele, dressed in Rebels attire, was clocked at more than 170km/h in a 110km/h zone at Kadina on January 2 by an officer stationed at an OTR service station.
While being pursued by the officer, Daniele drifted onto the wrong side of the Copper Coast Highway several times, the court heard.
Daniele’s lawyer Andrew Graham admitted there had been a “relatively short episode of dangerous driving” but his client was “distressed and anxious” at the time.
“He waved to say (to the officer): ‘Leave me alone’,” Mr Graham told the court.
“When he’s seen the police, he’s panicked and taken off.”
The officer, who aborted the chase for safety reasons, got close enough to see Daniele’s registration number which was partially obscured.
Daniele was eventually arrested on January 10.
Mr Graham said his client had struggled since the death of his father in 2010 from Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and had turned to drugs and alcohol to “self-medicate”.
However, Magistrate Derek Sprod said Daniele did not deserve leniency.
“He’s got a shocking record for someone so young,” Magistrate Sprod said.
He set an eight-month non parole period.
