Prison guard Sharif Kradolfer faces court in Adelaide on bribery charges filed by ICAC

A prison guard accused of bribery and smuggling charges has faced court over an ICAC arrest – while a Renewal SA worker, also facing corruption allegations, has not.

A prison guard has made his first appearance in court over allegations, filed by ICAC, that he smuggled contraband in exchange for bribes.

Sharif Kradolfer, 40, of Mount Gambier, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

He has yet to plead to one count of accepting a bribe or corruption of a public office.

It is alleged that between 30 June 2018 and 10 July 2018, Kradolfer agreed to accept a benefit from another person as a reward for bringing contraband into Mount Gambier Prison.

On Tuesday, prosecution and defence counsel made a joint application to have the matter adjourned.

Kradolfer’s lawyer asked the case return to court within a month “in order to preserve any sentencing discount available”.

Kradolfer was remanded on continuing bail to face court again in three weeks.

Meanwhile a second, separate ICAC case was also heard in court on Tuesday – but the person charged was excused from attending.

Renewal SA administrative worker Stephanie Hardy, 25, of Paradise, has yet to plead to four counts of breaching confidentiality provisions in the ICAC Act.

It is alleged that, on four separate occasions between September 18 and 21 last year, she knowingly received information about an ICAC investigation.

It is further alleged that, on each occasion, she disclosed that information to other persons without authorisation to do so.

If convicted, Hardy faces up to six months’ jail or a maximum $2500 fine.

On Tuesday, counsel for Hardy said they had only just received a copy of the allegations against their client and asked for time to obtain instructions.

The matter was adjourned until next month.
