Police officer on motorbike and child injured in Tour Down Under crash

A police motorcycle has run into a child who ran onto the road during road closures ahead of the Tour Down Under.

A child and a police officer have both been injured following a crash ahead of the Tour Down Under.

The officer on a police motorbike was involved in road closures for the event as it wound its way through the hills.

Just after 12.30pm the bike hit a child crossing Longwood Rd in Heathfield.

A police statement said the child was holding the lead of a dog which ran onto the road in front of the police bike.

The rider tried to avoid the collision but hit the child.

The child received minor and injuries and was taken to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital for treatment.

The police officer was also injured and was treated at the scene.
