Pair charged with drug trafficking after Burton traffic stop prompts man to flee, allegedly hide drugs in bushes before being arrested
Two people have been arrested for drug trafficking in the northern suburbs overnight after a man fled from police during a traffic stop while his co-offender was spoken to by officers.

A man and a woman have been charged with drug trafficking after a routine traffic stop at Burton prompted the man to flee in the car, before he allegedly hid drugs in bushes before being arrested.
The couple’s silver Subaru was stopped by on Heaslip Road around 11.30pm Friday.
Police searched the car and allegedly uncovered drug paraphernalia and 40g of methamphetamine.
Checks revealed the female driver was unlicensed.
While police were speaking to the woman, the male passenger jumped into the driver’s seat and drove away from the patrols.
The officer did not pursue the car but notified other police patrols in the area.
The police helicopter was deployed and followed the vehicle along Stebonheath Road, West Avenue and Peachey Road at Davoren Park.
The driver stopped on Chapman Road at Smithfield Plains and was allegedly seen stashing items in the bushes.
The man was located, as well as scales and methamphetamine in the bushes.
A 30-year-old Davoren Park woman was arrested and charged wtih driving disqualified and trafficking a controlled substance.
A 39-year-old Davoren Park man was arrested and charged with driving at speed to danger the public, hindering police and trafficking drugs.
They were bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court at a later date.
