Man killed, woman injured as car crashes into tree and sparks fire at Gumeracha in Adelaide Hills

An elderly man has died and his female passenger has sustained serious injuries after crashing into a tree and sparking a fire at Gumeracha in the Adelaide Hills.
Police said the pair was travelling north on Kenton Valley Road, where their car hit a tree and ignited a fire at 2.15pm on Wednesday.
The occupants had to be pulled from the car, which was destroyed in the blaze.
An 81-year-old Modbury man who was driving the car died at the scene.
His passenger – a Modbury woman, 77 – was flown to Royal Adelaide Hospital, where she remained in a stable condition on Wednesday night.
The man’s death takes the number of lives lost on SA roads to 81, compared with 101 at the same time last year.
