Man found dead with chest wounds at Prospect

A man accused of the stabbing murder of Matthew Scott Bristow on a suburban street in Prospect has appeared in court for the first time.

The 29-year-old Kilburn man, whose name and image were suppressed as the investigation continues, listened impassively as Magistrate John Fahey remanded him in custody for at least the next six months.

The police prosecutor asked Mr Fahey for an adjournment of more than seven months to give detectives time to finish what is predicted to be a complicated investigation.

Police are still collecting security camera footage from the houses around the scene of the murder and are searching for more witnesses.

Additionally the digital evidence section will examine seven mobile phones, including analysing movement and GPS data.

The weapon involved in the man’s death, as well as his clothing, are yet to be found.

Nick Vadasz, acting for the accused, said he opposed the lengthy adjournment which would have seen his client imprisoned for almost a year before facing court again.

Mr Fahey gave police six months to prepare their case and pass in on to the Director of Public Prosecutions to present it to the courts.

The man was arrested late on Tuesday night by Major Crime Detectives and charged with Mr Bristow’s murder.

Mr Bristow, 43, was found by a jogger lying on the footpath on Alabama Ave in Prospect about 5.45am on Tuesday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering a fatal puncture wound to his chest.

Police believe he staggered a short distance after being stabbed, trailing blood down the suburban street.

Detectives and uniformed police officers swarmed the scene, searching for a weapon.

Mr Bristow’s car was found in Robe St, Kidman Park about 1.20pm, leading to a 40-year-old Mansfield Park man being arrested for illegal use, petrol theft and driving unlicensed,

He appeared in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
