An investment manager who is being detained over an international superannuation scam has been reported for allegedly trying to convince two of his victims to not give evidence against him.

It is alleged Christopher Lloyd George, 33, tried to dissuade the witnesses while being held in the Adelaide Remand Centre.

SA Cybercrime officers reported him on Wednesday afternoon.

He is already facing 69 counts of aggravated deception after allegedly defrauding tens of thousands of dollars from five people who paid him to recoup losses from an overseas superannuation scam.

George, of One Tree Hill, was arrested and then denied bail in the Adelaide Magistrates Court last week, where it was heard he acted as his victims’ superannuation investment manager.

Police prosecutor Brevet Sergeant Katrina Peacock said in court a NSW victim made an initial investment of $455,000 to what he believed to be a legitimate fund managed by George, who purported to be a senior financial adviser.

“The investment failed and … (George) is alleged to have deceived the victim into believing he could recover the funds lost and, as such, received a benefit of $81,743,” Sgt Peacock said.

Sgt Peacock said another victim based in Victoria made an initial investment of $259,582.98 and that, after the investment failed, George deceived him into paying a further $94,000.

Detective Sergeant Martin Burke of the Cybercrime Investigation Section said: “South Australia Police will not tolerate any course of conduct to dissuade or attempt to dissuade a witness from providing evidence.”
