Assault charges upgraded to murder after man dies following Paringa assault

Charges against a man initially accused of assaulting a man in the Riverland have been upgraded to murder after the victim died in hospital.

A man has been charged with murder after another man died following a serious assault in the Riverland earlier this month.

Police say there was an altercation by two men known to each other on the grounds of a Paringa accommodation facility about midnight on Sunday, August 2.

The victim, a 29-year-old man from Vanuatu, was found unresponsive in his cabin the following Monday when he did not arrive at work that day.

Emergency services attended the scene, and the victim was taken to the Berri Hospital in a critical condition. He was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, but died from his injuries on August 12.

A 25-year-old man was arrested and charged over the assault is now facing a murder charge.

He appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, where he was remanded in custody, to reappear in December.

The Advertiser understands the accommodation facility is the Paringa Resort on Hughes Avenue.

The resort provided no response after several attempts were made to contact them.

Detectives believe numerous people witnessed the incident, and urge anyone with information to come forward.

Police would like to speak to anyone who saw the injured man at the time of the assault, who are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
