A driving instructor has faced court accused of committing more than 40 sexual offences against his teenage students over a four-year period.
Kenneth Campbell, 62, of Kensington Gardens, made his first appearance in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
He was arrested on June 27 by detectives from SA Police’s Eastern District Child and Family Investigation Section.
Those detectives alleged Campbell had indecently assaulted two learner drivers “on a number of occasions” during lessons in 2019 and 2020.
Campbell was subsequently charged with, and then bailed on, nine aggravated counts of indecent assault and one count of behaving indecently.
On Wednesday, however, the court heard Campbell was now charged with a total of 41 counts of indecent assault, following a second arrest on July 6.
Prosecutors said 18 of those counts were considered aggravated offences, meaning the alleged victim was under the legal age of consent.
The remaining 23 counts are “basic” charges of indecent assault, meaning the age of the alleged victim does not further aggravate the offending.
Court documents allege Campbell’s offending spanned from January 2016 to June 2020, and involved three further victims.
They allege the offending occurred in Myrtle Bank, Parkside, Magill and Adelaide.
On Wednesday, police asked Campbell’s bail conditions be varied to ban him from contacting all of his alleged victims.
Magistrate Rodney Oates agreed, and remanded Campbell on continuing bail to face court again in October.
