Adelaide’s Tyson Stengle says he’s “remorseful and embarrassed” after being caught drink driving and losing his licence.

Adelaide young gun forward Tyson Stengle faces police charges and club-imposed disciplinary sanctions after being reported for drink-driving during the coronavirus shutdown.

Police confirmed the 21-year-old, from North Haven, was stopped by officers on Grafton Ave, Morphettville, just after 2am on April 9.

Stengle was initially asked by police to pull over after he was spotted driving an unregistered car, but then subsequently recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.125 – more than twice the legal limit.

The car was his own car and he was not the sole occupant in the vehicle.

Stengle was reported for drink driving and driving unregistered.

His car was impounded and his licence was cancelled on the spot for six months.

He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Aside from police actions, Stengle faces club-imposed sanctions, which will be decided by senior management in the coming weeks.

Stengle was able to address the entire playing group this morning – a week after the incident – in a video conference and Crows’ head of football Adam Kelly said he expressed remorse for what he had done.

Kelly said Stengle’s actions were not only serious breaches of the club’s standards, but those of the wider community.

“Tyson is deeply remorseful and embarrassed by his actions, and we have expressed our disappointment in his decision-making,” Kelly said.

“Fortunately, no one was hurt and he will receive appropriate education so he learns from this mistake. Tyson is a valued member of the Crows’ family and we will continue to support him.”

Stengle faces a loss of licence and a hefty fine.

He was not breaking any social distancing protocols.

Meanwhile, it was revealed today premiership-winning Lachie Hunter was reeling from a row with his fiancee when he smashed his car into four parked cars in Melbourne.

The Western Bulldogs’ vice-captain is expected to be charged on summons with drink-driving and was slapped with a fine for breaching coronavirus lockdown rules when police caught him on Wednesday night.
