Teen arrested over elderly woman’s terrifying home invasion in Edwardstown

An elderly woman was left in shock after she woke to find someone lying on top of her inside her Edwardstown apartment – now a teenager has been arrested.

A teenager has been arrested and charged with intention to rape after allegedly breaking into an elderly woman's Edwardstown home and lying on top of her as she slept.

Police allege the 16-year-old boy broke in to the unit between 11.30pm and midnight on Thursday.

The victim, a 90-year-old, allegedly woke the stranger lying on top of her.

The woman screamed, and the offender fled the scene.

She was not physically injured, but was distressed and is in the care of family members.

The unit’s bathroom window had been smashed.

Detectives from the Special Crime Investigation Section arrested a boy, 16, from the southern suburbs, on Saturday afternoon. He was charged with aggravated criminal trespass and intention to rape.

The daughter of the victim said the offender “danced around the room” before leaving the home.

The woman, who speaks limited English, was visibly distraught at home with her daughter on Friday afternoon.

She said her mother did not know who the assailant was and believed he may have come in search of drugs.

The victim contacted several of her children after the terrifying incident. .

Her daughter said some blood was discovered on the bed sheets, which were collected by police to be used as forensic evidence.

She said her mother was very shaken but added she is a “strong woman” who has raised six children.
