An Adelaide Hills chiropractor jailed for accessing child exploitation material has been banned from practising for six years.

Warren Jon Young was charged with three counts of accessing and three counts of transmitting child exploitation material following an operation by the Australian Federal Police.

His registration was suspended as the court proceedings continued, but in a decision made in December but only made public on Thursday online the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal held Young is not a fit and proper person to be registered as a chiropractor.

Young swapped 33 images and videos over a four-month period in 2018 using the Kik messenger application.

He traded the images, which included children as young as 11, with three other users.

Young came to the attention of police when a notification was made to the US-based Centre of the Missing and Exploited Children which was then passed on to federal police.

Young was sentenced to 17 months imprisonment in January 2021 with an order he be released after serving five months in prison.

District Court Judge Adam Kimber in sentencing Young said there were good signs for rehabilitation, but also noted that he could not be satisfied he would was no longer a risk.

He appealed against the sentence and was granted bail while the Supreme Court considered his application.

However, the court refused the appeal and he was returned to prison to serve the remainder of his sentence.

During Tribunal hearings Young’s lawyer accepted that the offending showed he did not have the good character needed to be a medical professional.

A psychiatrists report tendered to the Tribunal said Young was in the early stages of developing a proclivity for young children and it was still “secondary to his interest in adult women”.

The Tribunal cancelled Young’s registration and imposed a six year ban preventing him for reapplying to practice.

He will be able to reapply for registration in December 2027.
