Two mates escaped tragedy while they were changing a tyre along a busy Adelaide road Friday morning.

Two mates are ‘lucky to be alive’ after a truck slammed into their car while they were changing a tyre – blocking a busy Adelaide road on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to Port Wakefield Rd at Mawson Lakes just after 7am arriving to find a truck on its side and a car heavily damaged.

The crash caused traffic chaos for morning commuters as cars were banked up on the busy northern road with the two city-bound lanes closed between Salisbury Hwy and Montague Rd.

However, the road has since reopened.

Pictures have emerged showing a truck on its side over multiple lanes of Port Wakefield Rd while a gold hatchback has been photographed with extensive damage to the rear of the car.
