Thocrial Agoth and youth sentenced to more than 20 years in jail for ‘brutal’ Anzac Day murder of Ngor Bol

Two men – one just shy of his 18th birthday at the time – will spend decades in jail for their brutal murder of an “innocent” man on North Tce.

Two murderers will spend more than 20 years each behind bars for the brutal stabbing murder of an “innocent” man on a night out with friends on Anzac Day two years ago.

On Friday, Justice Adam Kimber of the Supreme Court sentenced Victorians Thocrial Agoth, 24, and another man, now 20 – who legally cannot be named because he was a youth at the time – for the murder of Ngor Bol.

Justice Kimber said the murder had been committed in a “brutal fashion” by two young men who he hoped would see they “let their community down”.

“It is disturbing that any person, let alone a youth, could repeatedly stab a person on the ground who was posing no threat,” Justice Kimber said.

“I am satisfied, beyond a reasonable doubt, that your intention was to kill Mr Bol at the time of both fatal injuries.

“Indeed, I am satisfied, beyond a reasonable doubt, that was your intention at the time of every blow with the knife.”

A jury unanimously found both men guilty of murder after a five-week trial.

The court heard Mr Bol was chased from Hindley St, through the UniSA campus before he was stabbed six times in the middle of North Tce by the youth, while Agoth stomped on and kicked his head.

The two men were arrested at Adelaide Airport on April 25, 2022.

The court heard both men had “poor” criminal histories, with prior history of “violent” offending including assaults and affrays, and both were breaching court orders to not leave Victoria at the time of the offending.

Justice Kimber sentenced Agoth to life with a 24-year non-parole period, and his co-offender – who wielded the knife – to life with a 26-year non-parole period.

Neither man reacted during the sentencing, and stayed silent in the dock.

Outside of court, Mr Bol’s sister, Nyarach Bol, said she was “happy” her brother’s killers would be in jail for so long.

“Twenty-four, 26 years, that’s right, I’m really happy for that, that’s a long time,” Ms Bol said.

“It’s not going to bring my brother back, but at least they gotta (serve) the sentence. Thank you Australia.”

Ms Bol echoed her family’s anguish they still did not have answers as to why their loved one died, because the killers – who continue to reject the guilty verdict – never disclosed their motive.

“I just want to know why this happened to my brother, he was innocent,” she said.
