A teenager charged over a crash that injured his four passengers was drunk and banned from driving at the time, a court has heard.

A young man was drunk and driving while disqualified when he crashed a car carrying four passengers into a tree at St Kilda just after Christmas, a court has heard.
On Wednesday, Jack McGee, 19, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court for the first time after being arrested and charged over the crash on December 28 last year.
He was allegedly driving a Ford Explorer SUV that left the road and hit a tree on St Kilda Rd about 5.30pm.
Documents released to The Advertiser alleged Mr McGee was over the legal limit at the time of the offence.
It will be alleged Mr McGee had a blood alcohol reading of 0.08 or more at the time of the crash.
The Elizabeth Vale man is charged with two aggravated counts of causing serious harm by dangerous driving, two aggravated counts of causing harm by dangerous driving, and one count of driving while disqualified after a drug driving disqualification.
Mr McGee said nothing during his appearance in court on Wednesday and stood silently listening as his charges were read out.
As a result of the crash, an 18-year-old Elizabeth Grove woman sitting in the front left passenger seat was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
A 20-year-old woman, 19-year-old man and 23-year-old man also in the vehicle were all hospitalised too.
The Elizabeth Vale man was remanded on continuing bail, and is set to appear in court again in June.
