Siege accused Solange Goodes a no show in court

The “sovereign citizen” who allegedly sparked a siege is now accused of starting a police chase – and says it has “traumatised” her.

Police standoff accused explains why she won't appear in court

A self-described “sovereign citizen” accused of sparking a siege has missed court yet again – this time because she allegedly caused a police chase and is “traumatised”.

On Tuesday, and via email, Solange Goodes asked the Adelaide Magistrates Court to excuse her non-attendance on charges arising from an incident at her Sandy Creek property in September.

In the email, which was read to the court, Ms Goodes said her absence arose from events on the Horrocks Highway on Sunday, January 31.

“A police officer tried pulling me over... I felt scared and threatened... as I failed to stop, I was arrested,” she said.

“Due to the arrest and my overnight stay in the cells, I’m so traumatised and not well enough to attend court.”

Ms Goodes, 42, and her partner Toby Graham Lockyer, 41, have yet to plead to charges including assaulting and hindering police.

Prosecutors allege a routine firearms check by SA Police escalated into a two-hour siege.

Since then, Ms Goodes has repeatedly missed court dates – and made claims about police and court treatment via her YouTube channel – while the charges faced by the couple have been downgraded.

On Tuesday, the state’s chief magistrate, Judge Mary-Louise Hribal, said Ms Goodes was arrested after her last non-appearance in November – during which her lawyers stepped down from the case – and subsequently bailed again.

She noted Ms Goodes had been bailed following her arrest on January 31 also.

“In the early stages, when she was represented by competent counsel, it looked like there was going to be a resolution of this matter,” she said.

“They put in considerable effort... unfortunately, it’s unravelled.”

Judge Hribal adjourned the case but issued an arrest warrant for Ms Goodes, ordering it activate if she failed to attend court in April.

She further ordered all evidence in the matter be sent to Ms Goodes via email and registered post.

“Ms Goodes will need to attend on the next occasion so that this matter can be progressed,” she said.
