A man has revealed his desperate attempts to revive a cyclist who “catapulted” off an Adelaide Hills road this morning and died.

A man has revealed his desperate attempts to revive a cyclist who he believes was “catapulted” off an Adelaide Hills road this morning and died.

Emergency services responded to reports a cyclist had crashed on Morgan Rd at Ironbank about 8.15am Sunday.

The cyclist, a 49-year-old man from Tonsley, died at the scene.

The Advertiser understands the man was riding with two others and became separated before the other cyclists found him.

An Adelaide Hills resident spotted the men shortly after and came to their aid.

The resident, who asked to be identified only as Richard, said he saw two men on the road and initially thought someone hit a kangaroo.

When he approached them to help, he saw a cyclist in the bushes.

“He was unconscious. We came and pulled him out, I checked for a pulse but he had no pulse and he wasn’t breathing,” he said.

“So we started CPR until the ambulance arrived, but the ambulance I don’t think revived him either.”

Richard described the incident as “tragic”.

It is believed the cyclist crashed into a road sign during the incident.

“It looks like his bike just went straight off the road and through a barrier and catapulted into a bush, unfortunately,” Richard said.

Residents say Morgan Road, where the incident occurred, is very dangerous.

“I’ve been to at least four different incidents along this road where people have crashed and come off the road,” Richard said.

“This particular length of road is an 80km/h limit. Every other road around it is a 60km/h.”

He also urged others to learn CPR. He said the two other cyclists were “pretty distraught” but didn’t know CPR.

“It’s not heroic, it’s just something you can do for somebody if they need the help,” he said.

Road closures were in place on Morgan Rd, between Ironbank Rd and Scott Creek Rd, but it has since reopened.

Major Crash Section officers are investigating.

The man’s death is the 51st life lost on South Australian roads this year.
