A man who mowed down a female police officer and dragged her along the ground in a hit-run will face a slew of victim impact statements from the women’s colleagues.
Sarantis Parissos, 41, was due to face sentencing submissions in the District Court on Wednesday for the horrific hit-run, however, his counsel requested an adjournment.
He will now face the hearing, where victim impact statements from several police officers will be heard, in February.
Judge Rauf Soulio also lifted a suppression order on Parissos’s name.
Parissos was arrested in January 2022 after reversing into a female police officer and dragging her for several metres before driving off.
At the time of his arrest, police spotted Parissos in a black Range Rover SUV speeding along Sir Donald Bradman Drive, near Lockleys, about 4pm.
The PolAir helicopter tracked the car through backstreets from above and directed patrols to Merlin Rd, Fulham Gardens.
Several police officers approached the car in a bid to apprehend Parissos but he reversed and dragged the female officer for several metres before driving off.
He then dumped the car near Grange Rd and ran off.
Police attempted to confront Parissos, but he ran into the path of oncoming traffic and was struck by a car.
Parissos was taken to hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries. The female police officer was also taken to hospital.
He initially pleaded not guilty to the charges and was due to stand trial.
However Parissos, of West Lakes, ended up pleading guilty in March to multiple charges, including driving dangerously to escape police pursuit and hindering a police officer and thereby causing harm.
The court heard Parissos had written a letter of apology, with several police officers due to give lengthy victim impact statements on the next occasion.
Judge Soulio adjourned the charges until February.
