A man accused of having a homemade bomb – arrested as part of an investigation into ideologically motivated violent extremism – has faced court for the first time.

Patrick Patmore, 32, of Salisbury East, has been accused of offences including possessing an explosive device, taking steps to manufacture a bomb, having instructions on how to make bombs, possessing and manufacturing prohibited weapons and having ammunition without a licence.

Police prosecutors were granted a seven-month adjournment on Wednesday to gather evidence for their case. The matter will return to court in December.

Patmore, who is on bail, has to report to Elizabeth Police Station twice a week.

He was arrested in April as a part of 15 police raids on Adelaide homes.

The raids were part of an investigation into “people associated with ideologically motivated violent extremism”.

At the time, Thomas Sewell, the leader of neo-Nazi extremist group The National Socialist Network, reportedly said the Adelaide arrests “won’t slow us down”.

Sewell, posted a video to social media messaging app Telegram, following the arrests of its members and raids of 15 Adelaide homes.

Sewell told viewers after the raids that “a lot of fun activities” were being planned in Adelaide in the coming weeks, 9news.com.au reported.

The National Socialist Network was formed from the amalgamation of the Lads Society and the Antipodean Resistance.

It has posted photos on social media of masked members at known landmarks and in January held a military-style camp in the Grampians in western Victoria.

In March, ASIO director general of security Mike Burgess gave an annual threat assessment in which he said “ideological extremists” made up 40 per cent of the agency’s caseload.
