SA woman, 44, further banned from contacting her children, whom she is charged with having repeatedly sexually abused

A court has ruled on claims a woman charged with abusing her own children has been caught trying to smuggle messages to them from her prison cell.

A mother accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting her twin foster children has again been banned from contacting them for a second time over allegations of attempted psychological manipulation.

On Monday, the Adelaide Magistrates Court granted SA Police’s application that for further control orders be place upon the mother, who cannot be identified.

The mother, 44, and her former boyfriend, 26, have yet to plead to a combined 77 charges including unlawful sexual intercourse and producing child exploitation material.

Previously, police have alleged each repeatedly abused her children, both together and on their own, and went “spotting” in shopping malls for more victims.

The former boyfriend is not the children’s foster father – that man, who has custody of the alleged victims, has never been accused of nor charged with wrongdoing.

At a hearing last week, police asked the court to slap further control orders on the mother, accusing her of trying to psychologically manipulate the children from her jail cell.

During that hearing, they alleged she had hidden “love-bombing” messages to the twins in letters to her mother – which were intercepted by prison staff.

Also during that hearing, Alan Brayley, for the mother insisted their client was not attempting to contact the children.

He told that hearing his client’s intention “was to provide them to her mother to be held until a later day and time when it might be appropriate for them to read”.

That had been done, he said last week, for “her own benefit” at the “recommendation” of “various support officers and workers”.

On Monday, Magistrate John Wells said he was satisfied a further non-contact order was warranted.

He said the mother must not contact or communicate with either child – directly, indirectly or via a third party – by telephone or any form of printed, electronic or social media.

The mother and her ex-partner will face court again next month, when they are scheduled to enter pleas to the charges against them.
