A man has been reported after he was caught speeding with an unrestrained toddler in the car, SA Police says.

SATURDAY, APRIL 10

TODDLER UNRESTRAINED IN SPEEDING CAR

A toddler was travelling unrestrained in a car that sped through an intersection and nearly crashed into a median strip at Morphett Vale, police say.

Police followed a Mazda 2 sedan after it was allegedly driven erratically and at speed through the intersection of Main South Road and Flaxmill Road about 5.15pm on Friday evening.

They noticed the toddler sitting unrestrained on the front passenger’s lap, and stopped the car.

It is alleged the driver, a 32-year-old Morphett Vale man, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.120, and tested positive to methamphetamine and cannabis.

He was reported for aggravated driving without due care, drink driving, and having an unrestrained child in his vehicle, and was issued with a six month instant loss of licence and a 28-day car impound.

He also received a drug diversion for what is believed to be a small quantity of methamphetamine.

The man will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date, while police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the driver to come forward.

The Department for Child Protection has also been notified of the incident.

MAN ARRESTED ON THREE TYRES

A man has been arrested after he allegedly crashed into another car and blew a tyre but continued driving at Walkley Heights on Saturday morning.

A member of the public called police about 1.15am to report a Toyota Camry sedan had hit another car and lost a wheel.

The caller was following the sedan on Briens Road, and gave police regular updates as it continued to head north, driving through red lights, until it reached a driveway on Bridge Road.

A 32-year-old man from Salisbury East, who police say stumbled out of the vehicle, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving in a manner dangerous, failing to provide personal details and failing to exchange details at the scene of a crash.

He will be granted police bail to appear in court at a later date, and his car has been impounded for 28 days.

FRIDAY, APRIL 9

PEDESTRIAN DIES AFTER CLEARVIEW CRASH

A 93-year-old man has died after he was hit by a truck at Clearview on Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to Hampstead Road, near Windsor Avenue, about 10.45am, after reports a pedestrian had been struck.

The Clearview man was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he died on Friday.

The truck driver, a 40-year-old man from Angle Vale, was not injured in the crash, but taken to hospital as a precaution

The man’s death is the 37th on South Australian roads this year, compared to 32 at the same time last year.

SUSPICIOUS HOUSE FIRE AT ELIZABETH PARK

A suspicious house fire caused about $100,000 worth of damage to a property at Elizabeth Park on Friday evening.

Police and MFS crews were called to Ifould Road just before 6.30pm after reports that smoke was coming from the unoccupied premises.

The blaze was extinguished, and police are now investigating the blaze.

The eastern end of Ifould Road was temporarily blocked, however it has now reopened.

MAN FLEES CRASH AT WEST HINDMARSH

A man has been arrested after he allegedly ran from the scene of a crash at West Hindmarsh on Friday afternoon.

Police and emergency services were called to South Road about 1.30pm after reports a Holden sedan careered onto the other side of the road and into a Toyota Prado, causing it to land on its side.

The occupants of the Prado – two adults and two children – were taken by ambulance to the Flinders Medical Centre, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the driver of the Holden ran from the scene but was tracked to Hardys Road at Torrensville, where he was arrested by STAR Group officers.

That man, a 30-year-old from Kilkenny, was taken to hospital, where he was also treated for non-life threatening injuries.

He is expected to be charged with serious driving offences.

MEN CHARGED OVER CONSTRUCTION SITE TRESPASS

Two men have been charged after they were allegedly caught trespassing at a Richmond construction site after setting off an alarm.

The pair were allegedly seen carrying power tools up and down the levels of the multistorey site on the corner of Ellen Street and Davenport Terrace, at 11.40pm.

Police arrived and found a car parked adjacent to the site and located power tools inside it.

A 41-year-old man from Brooklyn Park and a 30-year-old man from Kilkenny were charged with criminal trespass and going equipped to commit an offence.

They have been bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 28 June.

WEST BEACH CAR BREAK-IN SUSPECT ARRESTED

A man has been arrested following a car break-in at West Beach.

Two teens who were acting suspiciously around a car on Gray Street were reported to police shortly after 3am on Friday morning.

A window of the car was smashed and a handbag was stolen from inside the car.

Police spotted a man throwing credit cards stolen from the vehicle on the ground, and he was arrested.

The 18-year-old Brooklyn Park man was charged with illegal interference and theft.

He was refused bail and will be appearing in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday.

The second suspect could not be located.

THURSDAY, APRIL 8

MAN CHARGED AFTER PURSUIT AT FINDON

A man has been charged after he led police on a pursuit following the theft of a car at Findon.

The man was spotted driving a stolen BMW on Norman Street on Thursday at 5.30pm.

The car was stolen from a Findon address on Wednesday.

Police did not pursue the car, but spotted it again driving out of a hotel car park on Findon Road.

As it drove down side streets, police pursued the car on foot, before it turned onto Lucas Street and hit a parked car, causing minor damage.

The driver fled on food, but was chased down by police and arrested.

The 26-year-old Mansfield Park man was charged with illegal use and drive dangerously to evade police.

He has been refused bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7

WOMEN CHARGED OVER STOLEN CAR

Two women have been charged after stealing a black BMW and dumping it at Pennington.

The BMW was seen leaving a shop theft incident at West Lakes Shopping Centre at 10.30am on Wednesday morning.

It was identified as being the same car stolen from a Pooraka home on Monday night, after police ran a number plate check.

The two women were seen driving along Frederick Road towards Old Port Road, before police lost sight of them.

It was then spotted on the Esplanade at Semaphore, but was not pursued.

The PolAir helicopter was called upon to assist in the search, following the car through Port Adelaide.

Road spikes were set-up, and successfully helped stop the car on Commercial Road and Grand Junction Road.

But the car continued.

It drove east on Grand Junction Road, before it was abandoned on Edwin Avenue at Pennington.

The car rolled forward, and hit a parked car, causing minor damage.

The women ran from the car and the driver, a 26-year-old from Ingle Farm, was found by police. She was charged with drive motor vehicle without consent, unauthorised person drive motor vehicle and dangerous driving.

The passenger, a 29-year-old woman from Kilburn, was found an hour later on Grand Junction Road. The woman was charged with drive motor vehicle without consent and two counts of theft.

Both of the charged women will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday.

SERIOUS CRASH AT NINNES

A man is in hospital with serious injuries after a crash at Ninnes, in the state’s mid north, overnight.

The 43-year-old Queensland man hit a tree on Upper Yorke Road at about 8.40pm on Tuesday.

He was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment.

The road was closed for several hours while Major Crash investigators were at the scene but was reopened after 11pm.

Police are now investigating the crash.

DRINK DRIVER HITS STOBIE POLE

A man driving at more than five times the legal alcohol limit hit a Stobie pole and drove off on Tuesday evening.

Police received a report of the crash at Tyler Street, Port Lincoln, at about 6pm and found the car parked in Mortlock Terrace.

A 59-year-old Port Lincoln man was breath tested and allegedly produced a reading of 0.254.

He was reported for drink driving and lost his licence for 12 months.

His car was impounded and he will appear in court at a later date.

TUESDAY, APRIL 6

PORT LINCOLN SERVO ROBBERY

An armed man held up a Port Lincoln service station in a Halloween mask on Tuesday morning.

The masked robber, wielding a knife, entered the OTR servo on King Street before 2.30am and demanded cash and cigarettes, making off with both.

The service station worker was not injured.

The suspect is described as being in his late teens or early 20s, 160-170cm tall and slim.

He was wearing a scary mask, orange hoodie with markings on the back, grey trackpants and black sneakers.

Police are investigating the robbery and have asked anyone with information to contact crime stoppers.

SERIOUS SPEEDER LOSES LICENCE

A driver has lost his licence for six months after he was caught driving 65km/h over the speed limit.

Police clocked the Mazda sedan travelling at 175km/h in a 110km/h zone on the Stuart Highway at Wirraminna in the far north at about 3.45pm on Monday.

The 56-year-old Northern Territory man was given an on the spot fine and lost his licence.

SUSPICIOUS FIRE AT MURRAY BRIDGE

A fire in an abandoned building in Murray Bridge is believed to be suspicious.

The fire, which started on Railway Terrace at about 5.30pm on Monday, was extinguished but caused significant damage to the building.

Fire cause investigators determined the fire had been deliberately lit.

Police are investigating the matter.

MONDAY, APRIL 5

SERIOUS CRASH AT BRUKUNGA

A car has reportedly crashed into a tree on Pyrites Rd, just north of Brukunga in the Adelaide Hills.

Emergency services were called at 5.30pm Monday.

The car’s occupants are reported to be seriously injured.

Police advise Pyrites Rd is closed to all traffic, and warn motorists to avoid the area.

Officers were still on the scene at 9.30pm.

MAN CHARGED AFTER WHEELIE BIN FIRE AT PARA HILLS

A man has been charged following a house fire at Para Hills on Monday morning.

Upon arrival to the Todd Road home, where fire and police crews spotted a wheelie bin on fire outside of a house, a man was seen riding a motorised bike near the house.

The wheelie bin was placed out of the front of the house while it was on fire, caused smoke damage to the home and destroyed the bin.

The home occupant, a 46-year-old man, was treated for minor smoke inhalation and taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital.

Police attempted to stop the suspect, but he rode away.

He was followed through backstreets to O’Grady Drive, where he was stopped.

The 43-year-old was charged with drink-driving after he returned a reading of 0.178.

He was also charged with acts to endanger life.

SUNDAY, APRIL 4

CARS TARGETED IN LOBETHAL

Hills Fleurieu Police are investigating and calling for information following a number of recent thefts from motor vehicles over the long weekend in Lobethal.

Sometime overnight, between Friday and Saturday last week, a ute parked on Wattle Street was broken in to and a Makita radio and battery were taken.

Also on Wattle street a Prado and a Hilux were targeted, with a Wako camping fried, Gyro switch blade helmet, downhill mountain bike, Camel Pack and tools stolen from the Prado.

A wallet containing cards, and Easter gifts were stolen from the Hilux.

Between Saturday and Sunday, attempts were also made to gain entry to a Landcruiser parked on Onkaparinga Street.

Nearby on Onkaparinga Street a Rodeo ute was broken into with a SCA brand compressor, diesel heater, and battery jump pack stolen.

Also between these dates a Ford Falcon parked on School Road was broken in to with tools and gardening equipment, including a whipper snipper and a leaf blower stolen.

BUSINESS FIRE AT TORRENSVILLE

An electrical fault is believed to have started a fire at a Torrensville real estate agency overnight.

The blaze, which started about 7pm, caused around $350,000 damage.

Firefighters managed to bring the fire, on Henley Beach Road, under control in 20 minutes.

It took another 40 minutes to extinguish hot spots in the roof.

About half of the Harcourts Sheppard agency was saved.

THURSDAY, APRIL 1

DRINK DRIVER FOUR TIMES OVER THE LIMIT IN MOUNT BARKER

Hills Fleurieu Police have deplored the recent actions of a ‘selfish prick’ at a fast food outlet in Mount Barker.

At about 6.20pm on Thursday last week, Police attempted to stop a blue Nissan SUV which was spotted entering the outlet’s congested drive-through.

However the driver disobeyed their direction, shouted expletives and drove over kerbs to avoid police.

Police followed the car along Mann Street and eventually stopped on Newland Street.

The driver was breath tested and allegedly produced a blood alcohol reading of 0.215.

A 41-year-old Mount Barker man was arrested for drink driving, disobeying police directions, contravening a vehicle interlock as well as driving unregistered and uninsured.

His vehicle was impounded and he was bailed to appear before the Mount Barker Magistrates Court on 12 May.

The selfish actions of this drink driver in an area saturated with vehicular and pedestrian traffic at dinner time brought serious risk to the community.
