An alleged drug trafficker has told the court he would rather stay in jail than be bailed to his mother’s house.
Ryan John Neshoda told the Mount Gambier Magistrate Court on Monday he did not want to apply for bail, despite his mother standing up in the same court a week ago saying he could come home.
Charged with selling a commercial quantity of a controlled drug, stealing a car and a number of road offence, Neshoda was unrepresented at both hearings.
“I don’t want to have a lawyer involved at all,” Neshoda said.
“I’d rather sit down and do time thanks.”
The police prosecutor told the court the defendant was first charged on June 14 at Glencoe with trafficking offences and bailed to his mother’s Mount Gambier address before he was arrested again four days later for breaching bail.
“In the early hours of the morning (of June 14) police were called to a person slumped over a motor vehicle,” the police prosecutor said.
“They discovered Mr Neshoda inside that vehicle which was (allegedly) a stolen vehicle.
“Whilst searching him the found a backpack and inside of that they located a bottle containing a thick, clear liquid.”
The prosecutor alleged 239 grams of GHB, $2670 cash, electric scales and a mobile phone with messages indicated “active selling” were discovered.
Opposing bail, the prosecutor said Neshoda had been identified as the alleged car thief by CCTV footage and the “distinctive clothing” he was wearing at the time of the first arrest.
Magistrate Maria Panagiotidis order bail inquiry and home detention reports last Monday to his mother’s address after she told the court she was happy for him to come home “if there is conditions”.
“Your mother says you can go to her house to live but you will need to be on home detention,” Magistrate Panagiotidis said.
Neshoda told the court he planned to plead not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Panagiotidis revoked Neshoda’s police bail and remanded him until December but said he could seek legal advice and apply for bail in the meantime.
